give domestic staff a day off ????

In my 16 years in Singapore, I refused to employ a full time domestic helper. I cringe when people talk about maids.

I have seen good employers, I have seen really bad employers. I even made official complaints.  No doubt there were bad apples in both parties.

A new video calls on Singapore's employers to give their domestic workers at least one day off per week to mark Labour Day on May 1. The initiative IGiveADayOff.org was organised by migrant workers group Transient Workers' Count Two (TWC2) and marketing firm Ogilvy & Mather.

Interviewers ask mothers and their domestic staff a series of question about their children, with the children's answers shown separately. The video concludes, "Shouldn't we spend more time with our children? Let's give domestic workers their legal days off".

Thanks to Helen who organised my talk.

The New Zealand Chinese Association kindly hosted my book talk/presentation. I also showed the Youtube of the A Chinese boy in Sarawak.

I enjoyed myself and my audience had fun, listening to a talk peppered with my Quang Ning dialect which they could understand.

Hearts from Heaven

Every now and then, my cut glass window shines two hearts on my duvet. Today it shown again. I woke up just in time to see them.

I wake up thanking the Lord. Andrew been in heaven for 25 Easters. And I am alright.
