Every now and then, my cut glass window shines two hearts on my duvet. Today it shown again. I woke up just in time to see them.

I wake up thanking the Lord. Andrew been in heaven for 25 Easters. And I am alright.

Ann Kit Suet Chin-Chan

I discovered this book, when I was at my printers
having some of my work printed. I picked up the book,
and was intrigued to read parts of it, as I flicked
through the pages.

Who was Ann Chin? I took a photo of the cover, and
added to my face book page and did the usual google
search. We made contact via face book, and had a
meeting. We swapped books – as you do.
Describers by the author as “a hundred year old
journal of two families, the Chans and the Kongs.”
recorded from 1907 to 2006. “From Kwang Zhou,
China, to the jungles of Borneo. It is a six generational
record with the second wave of movement to England,
Canada, Japan, Singapore, Australia, USA and New
Zealand.”

“The Opium war, virgin tropical jungle, Japanese
World War, colonial days, a revolution, a fight with the
communists; these were harshness and the difficulties
the families had to go through.”

Ann writes lovingly of each family person, from her
childhood memories, and gives us descriptive insights
– “Grandfather Kong … loved a drink or two, not too
much to make him drunk. When he visited us Mother
would offer him a bottle of Guinness Stout, an egg and
a big mug before her retired to bed. He poured the
stout into the mug, broke the egg into the stout and
drank the concoction. The creamy effervescent gave
him a white mustache on his upper lip and he made a
slurpy sound as his tongue licked the froth off… . We
used to cringe…when he swallowed the raw egg which
had sunk to the bottom of the mug. ”

The book is well written, and provides a distinctive
contrast to the lives that our own newly arrived New
Zealand forebears suffered during this period. It makes
me feel that they had it good.

AUSTRALIA: Lebanese Muslim husband of 12-year-old pregnant wife arrested for sexual abuse

The 12-year-old Muslim bride who was forced by her father to get married in an illegal Islamic ceremony was pregnant at the time her 26-year-old Lebanese husband was charged with ongoing child sex abuse.

The 27-year-old man, whose identity is being protected, pictured at Burwood Local Court in May, has pleaded guilty to ongoing child sex abuse

UK Daily Mail  The Islamic ‘wedding’ ceremony which is alleged to have been arranged by her father, took place in the girl’s lounge room in the Hunter region in NSW, in January last year.

Not long after the man, now 27, and can not be named for legal reasons (Why not?), was charged with one count of persistent sexual abuse of a child, the girl was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy and then miscarried in February after complaining of abdominal pain,The Daily Telegraph reported. 

The girl, now 13, didn’t want to marry the student because of the 14 year age gap but the man bombarded her with text messages after he first laid eyes on her in a mosque in November 2013, the court papers stated on Wednesday.

The man pleaded guilty in Burwood Local Court in October to one count of persistent sexual abuse of a child, which carries a 25-year maximum jail sentence. The charge takes in 25 counts of sexual intercourse with a child between 10 and 14, with which the man was originally charged. 

The girl’s father will face trial this year. The father, who is in his 60s, allegedly arranged the illegal marriage. The father allegedly organized his daughter’s marriage to the Lebanese immigrant because he wanted to stop her from ‘committing a life of sin’.

He was charged with procuring a child under 14 for unlawful sexual activities, and being an accessory before the fact to sexual intercourse with a person under 14. Court documents say the girl met the 27-year-old man at a mosque in November 2013  after he approached her father and asked to meet her.

Police allege the young girl’s father enabled his daughter’s sexual assault by organising the unlawful marriage – including allowing them to swap phone numbers and meet three times in the family home before the ceremony. The couple spent their wedding night at a motel in the Hunter region where they had sex several times, police allege.

Background:
Hollywood executives have chosen to release the film version of the "erotic" novel 50 Shades of Grey in theaters this Valentine's Day - Feb. 14, 2015.
While the marketing campaign is selling the movie as a "romance," there is nothing authentically romantic about the tale of a sado-masochistic sexual relationship between a young, vulnerable student, Anastasia, and an older billionaire, Christian Grey.
Critics have described the book as misogynistic, pornographic, exploitative, sexually violent, and anti-romance – and there is little reason to expect the film will be anything different.
Opposition to the book and movie crosses the ideological spectrum, with many feminists expressing grave concerns about the messages the book is sending. One post on the leading feminist website Jezebel slammed the book (and by extension, the movie) as "50 Shades of Abuse."
Marketing for the film is already in full swing, and little concern is being given to the influence that the positive and pornographic portrayal of an abusive BDSM relationship will have on those who will see the movie.
While undoubtedly many people will flock to see the film what it is released, there is a growing movement opposing both the films and the book.
This upcoming Valentine’s Day, join this movement by pledging to take stand for true love and true romance. Together, let's make 50 Shades the worst box-office flop in history.

husband's depraved attacks

Shocking details have emerged of how a British woman was sexually abused in her sleep by her husband, who recorded the attacks.
Sarah Tetley told British television's ITV that she only discovered the extent of what happened after her husband Charlie was arrested.
Police seized 316 videos on her husband's computer.
Ms Tetley, 26, said it wasn't until months after her husband's depraved attacks were uncovered that she was able to watch any of the videos to see what he did.
She told ITV her suspicions were first raised in November 2013.
“I woke up in the morning in that sort of drowsy just waking up stage and realised that he was molesting me in my sleep," she told ITV’s This Morning.
"At the time I thought I'll just pretend I'm still asleep and see what's going on. He stopped pretty quickly and I left the bedroom and went downstairs and sat up watching some rubbish on telly."

Ms Tetley confided in neighbours, who urged her to go to the police.
“A couple of the videos I watched...I did look like I was dead in some of them,” she said.
“A lot of the videos weren’t just of him but of household objects and things he would decide to do with those. It was quite disturbing.”
Charlie Tetley pleaded guilty to 26 counts of rape and assault and was jailed for 12 years in August last year.
Ms Tetley said she decided to talk about her ordeal to raise awareness of abuse.
